Do Data Centers Hurt Nearby Home Values?
Data centers are expanding fast, and more homeowners are wondering what that could mean for nearby property values. So far, research suggests home values in communities with large data centers have generally performed similarly to comparable areas without them. But location still matters. Noise, proximity, development patterns, and possible utility impacts can all play a role. If a data center is proposed near your home in Kane or DuPage County, The Kombrink Team is keeping an eye on what it could mean for the local housing market.
There’s a good chance you’re hearing a lot about data centers right now. It feels like they’re popping up just about everywhere you look.
Just look at this. In twenty-fifteen, only about a dozen ZIP codes had a large data center. Today, it’s more than one hundred – and that number is growing.
And that raises one pretty important question when it comes to real estate… What happens to home values in the area? So far, the data is actually reassuring. HousingWire found home values in places with data centers generally tracked pretty closely with similar communities without them.
Now, proximity, noise, and the potential impact to utility costs can still matter.
But despite what you may think, having a data center nearby doesn’t automatically mean home values are going to go down.
If there’s one near you or one coming soon, you probably have questions about what it could mean for your home or your next move.
The Kombrink Team is following this closely, so you don’t have to worry. Let’s talk.
